ABOUT BORDERS IN THE ART WORLD

THE ART WORLD IS RULED BY THE SAME KIND OF SOCIO-POLITICAL RULES AS THE REST OF THE WORLD AN ADAPTS ITSELF TO THE CHANGES THAT HAPPENS IN IT.

THERE ARE THOSE WHO ARE ACCEPTED AND THOSE WHO ARE REFUSED FOR REASONS THAT ARE INDEPENDENT OF THE QUALITY OF THE WORK THEY D0. FOR EXAMPLE ONE MUST HAVE THE CORRECT STYLE, THE CORRECT SEX AND LANGUAGE, THE CORRECT ATTITUDE AND CONNECTIONS, AND OF COURSE, THE CORRECT NATIONALITY.

THE WORLD OF THE COMMERCIAL ART GALLERIES IS SELECTIVE INDEED AND IF THE SOCIAL CLIMA IT'S HARD, THERE IT'S EVEN HARDER.THIS IS PARTICULARLY OBVIOUS IN STOCKHOLM WHERE THE GALLERIES, BECAUSE OF THEIR PERIPHERAL SITUATION IN RELATION TO THE REST OF THE WORLD, DESPERATELY PRETENDS TO BE INTERNATIONAL, BUT BEING DEPENDENT ON A VERY REDUCED CIRCLE OF LOCAL BUYERS. IT IS PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT FOR THEM, FOR SURVIVAL, TO SHOW ONLY THE CORRECT ARTIST TO THE CORRECT PUBLIC.

A LARGE AUDIENCE, THOSE WHO MAY BE INTERESTED IN ART, BUT CANNOT AFFORD TO BUY, ARE UNNECESSARY, UNWANTED, AND EVEN ANNOYING (THE GALLERISTS CALL THEM THE "PRAM-PEOPLE", THEY TAKE TOO MUCH SPACE!)

FOR THOSE INSIDERS OF THE PRIVATE GALLERY WORLD, WE DESIGNED THE PART 1.

 

INSIDERS:

WE PENETRATED ELECTRONICALLY ALL THE GALLERIES THAT, FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER, ARE PARTICULARLY SELECTIVE. WE PLACED A WORK OF FAW 4 IN ALL OF THEM AT THE SAME TIME.

WE SHOWED THE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM AS A WEAKNESS: THE GALLERIES WERE FORCED TO PARTICIPATE ACTIVELY IN THE WORK BY KEEPING IT, OR THROWING IT INTO THE BASKET.

THE MEANS OF PENETRATION:THE FAX MACHINE, THE OBJECT:FAX MULTIPLES

OUTSIDERS:

WE PLACED A WORK OF FAW 4, AT THE ENTRANCE OF THE SAME GALLERIES, INFORMING THE NON-CORRECT VISITORS THAT THEY WERE NOT NEEDED OR WANTED BEHIND THAT DOOR, A DOOR OPEN ONLY FOR THE CREAM OF AN EXCLUSIVE WORLD RULED BY MARKET FACTORS.

THE WORK: WALL MULTIPLES. THE GALLERIES: ARONOWITSCH, BOHMAN, BRÄNDSTRÖM, ENGSTRÖM, FAHL, FORUM, NORDENHAKE, ANDRÉHN-SCHIPTJENKO, TRE, WETTERLING.

 

 

 

 

UNAUTHORISED NO TRESPASSING - PART 2

THE STREET SCULPTURE MULTIPLES

BORDERS-FENCES (INSIDERS-OUTSIDERS FOR OUTSIDERS)

SCANDINAVIAN MEETING IN STOCKHOLM, THE MULTI-CULTURAL SOCIETY. THE NORDIC REGION ANT ITS PEOPLE, IMMIGRANTS AND EMIGRANTS. MEMORY'S AND LIFE EXPERIENCES THAT HAVE FORMED WHAT WE NOW CALL THE NORDIC CULTURE.

PEOPLE MOVE, CHANGE PLACE IN SEARCH OF BETTER OPPORTUNITIES, ESCAPE FROM WAR AND HUNGER OR HIGH TAXES AND BAD WEATHER.

THE WORLD HAS BECOME SMALL, THE FAMOUS CHAOS BUTTERFLY SHAKES HER WINGS AND THE STOCK MARKET FALLS IN TOKYO. ECONOMY RULES, FEAR GROWS, AND EVERYBODY WANTS TO PROTECT HIS/HERS BELONGINGS, TO MARK HIS/HERS TERRITORY, THERE ARE THOSE WHO BELONG AND THOSE WHO DON'T, FOR THEM BORDERS ARE NOT TO TRESPASSED.

BORDERS. NO TRESPASSING. WHERE TO PLACE THE BORDER AND WHY? EUROPE, SCANDINAVIA, THE COUNTRY, THE CITY, OUR BLOCK, OUR HOUSE, OUR APARTMENT, MY ARMCHAIR? WE FAW 4, DECIDED TO MAKE CONCRETE THE IDEA (ABSTRACT FOR MANY PEOPLE) OF SETTING BORDERS.

USING DOUBLE STREET-FENCE UNITS, THE SAME TYPE USED FOR ISOLATING CONSTRUCTION WORK'S, FOOTBALL HULIGANS ETC (THE FENCE ARE WELL KNOWN BY CITIZENS, THEY ARE NEUTRAL LOOKING AND BECOME ANONYMOUS AND EASY TO ACCEPT) WE ENCLOSED DIFFERENT EMPTY AREAS OF THE STREETS FORBIDDING THE CITIZENS TO USE THEM, OBVIOUSLY FOR NO REASON BECAUSE NOTHING WAS HAPPENING INSIDE. THE ONLY INFORMATION WAS GIVE THROUGH THE POSTERS PLACED ON THE OUTSIDE FENCES:

SOME OF THE FENCES WERE PLACED CLOSE TO THE ENTRANCE OF ART SHOWS: THE MODERN ART MUSEUM, THE STOCKHOLM ART FAIR, SMART SHOW, THE CULTURE HOUSE (KULTURHUSET), AND THE REST ALL AROUND THE CITY.

PARTICIPATING IN THE CULTURE FESTIVAL, BEING THE ONLY ONES THAT TOOK UP THE CHALLENGE OF ITS THEME AND THAT TOOK A CRITICAL POSITION AND CHOOSING ALWAYS TO WORK OUTSIDE, WERE ALSO A PART OF OUR WORK: INSIDERS BUT OUTSIDE, OUTSIDERS BUT INSIDE.
THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BORDERS, IF YOU ARE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE FENCE.
